Which ports and settings should I use for email?

Overview of server names and ports.

Use the settings below to configure your MostHosted email correctly.

Incoming mail server (IMAP or POP3)

Server: mail.mosthosted.com

IMAP – recommended when you want to use email on multiple devices

  • With SSL: port 993
  • Without SSL: port 143

POP3 – for downloading email locally

With POP3, messages are generally downloaded locally and may then be removed from the server.

  • With SSL: port 995
  • Without SSL: port 110

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

Server: mail.mosthosted.com

SMTP settings for sending email

  • With SSL: port 465
  • With TLS: port 587
  • Without SSL: port 25. This is not recommended and this port is often blocked by internet providers.

Security and authentication

  • Encryption: preferably use SSL or TLS.
  • Authentication: signing in is required. Use your full email address as the username and the corresponding password.
